INSTRUCTIONS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REPORT CARDSPART A: CREATE A FOLDER FOR THIS YEAR'S REPORT CARDS IN YOUR HOME DIRECTORY1. Log on as yourself to your teacher computer.2. Open your home directory. (Double Click the "Your Name files on Server" icon) 3. On the top toolbar, click "File", click "New" and click "Folder". A new folder appears at the bottom of the list of contents in your home directory. It should say "New Folder" in blue. Just type in the name and it will replace "New Folder" with whatever you type. Name it Report Cards (grade) (teacher name) (school year). If you mess up you can right click on it and click rename to re-type the name. PART B: SAVING A REPORT CARD TEMPLATE TO YOUR HOME DIRECTORY (do once only)1. Log on as yourself to your teacher computer.2. Press the “windows” key and the “e” key simultaneously to open “Windows Explorer” (the “windows” key has the Windows logo on it and one of them is between the control and alt keys left of the spacebar) 3. Click the “+” sign in front of “My Network Places” to expand the tree. 4. Click the “+” sign in front of “Entire Network” to expand the tree. 5. Click the “+” sign in front of “Microsoft Windows Network” to expand the tree. 6. Click the “+” sign in front of “Cripple Creek” to expand the tree. 7. Click the “+” sign in front of “adminex_server” to expand the tree. 8. Click on the words “Elem Report Cards” in the tree under “adminex_server” (NOT the “+” sign this time) Notice the files in that folder appear on the right pane. |

9. Find the report card template on the right pane that is appropriate for your grade level and double click on it to open it. Name this file template and save it into your home directory in the folder named “Report Cards (grade) (teacher name) (school year)”. (see how to save to your home directory below if you forget how) PART C: FILL IN AND SAVE STUDENT REPORT CARDS FOR THE FIRST QUARTER1. Find the file named template in your home directory in the folder “Report Cards (grade) (teacher name) (school year)” that you saved above in step 9 and double click on it to open it.2. Fill in the appropriate information…student name, grade, teacher name, grades, comments, etc for the first quarter. 3. Click “File”, “Save As” and then in the “File Name” blank type the student’s last name and the first name’s initial. |

EXAMPLE: for a student named Mike Jones the filename would be jonesm. This convention for naming would list the filenames in alphabetical order by last name for easy locating in a long list. |

4. In the “Save In” blank, browse to your home directory where you’ll find a folder for this year’s report cards. The folder’s name is “Report Cards (grade) (teacher name) (school year)”. Save each student’s report card in this folder so that they are backed up on tape and so the office can access them over the network. |

You should then see a list of items on your desktop. Double click on the one, “Ms. YourName’s files on Server”. Then in the list below double click on the one, “Report Cards (grade) (teacher name) (school year)”. | |

5. Before closing the document print a copy to give to the student and any extras you may need. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each student in your class. If you accidentally save an individual student’s report card with all their data on it over the template you can get a fresh, blank template by repeating the steps in Part A. PART D: FILL IN AND SAVE REPORT CARDS FOR THE 2ND, 3RD, AND 4TH QUARTERS1. Open the first file in your “Report Cards (grade) (teacher name) (school year) folder” which is a sub-folder within your home directory. |

2. Add in the new information for the quarter you are grading. 3. Update the changes made to this file by clicking the floppy disk icon which will save it with the same name to the same place only with the new changes you’ve made.4.
