USING YOUR HOME DIRECTORY

(directions for staff using their own classroom computer)

YOU CAN SAVE 3 PLACES… A FLOPPY DISK, YOUR LOCAL COMPUTER’S HARD DRIVE, OR TO YOUR HOME DIRECTORY.  FLOPPIES ARE VERY UNDEPENDABLE, YOUR LOCAL COMPUTER’S HARD DRIVE IS MORE DEPENDABLE BUT COULD DIE ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE AN OLD COMPUTER.  YOUR HOME DIRECTORY IS THE SAFEST PLACE TO STORE A COPY OF IMPORTANT FILES BECAUSE IT IS BACKED UP ON TAPE EVERY SCHOOL DAY!  IF YOUR LOCAL COMPUTER DIES, EVEN IF THE SERVER DIES WE WILL HAVE YOUR FILES ON TAPE.  CONSIDER YOUR HOME  DIRECTORY THE BEST PLACE TO STORE COPIES OF YOUR WORK ALTHOUGH YOU MAY WANT TO HAVE THEM ON YOUR LOCAL MACHINE TOO FOR CONVENIENCE.  NEVER HAVE YOUR ONLY COPY OF A FILE ON A FLOPPY.
