What's Going On As Of May 2010

The 2009/2010 season was a good one. All four trips went out and we enjoyed great snow each day with no injuries. The EPYCS foundation did award us a grant again (Thank you EPYCS!) and next season we will be able to award scholarships to students who perform community service as we have in past years. Refund checks have been mailed out and should have arrived to anyone who was owed a refund by end of April. Call Mr. Sauer if you have not received an expected refund. (492-4359) Visit this page around the end of November 2010 to see when the 2010 -2011 trip dates are.

Who is Eligible for the Ski Club?

You must be within the borders of the Cripple Creek - Victor RE-1 school district OR at least a part time student with our district. Home schoolers are welcome as long as they meet one of the above criteria. You must be a sixth grader to come without an parent to supervise you. Younger students are welcome with a parent. Parents of our students are welcome and adult community members are welcome.

Prices Same as Last Year

Prices did not go up this year. See below. Thank you to Monarch for keeping the prices low and not raising them for years.

EPYCS Grant Funds Are Used Up

The funds that provide free or reduced prices for students who perform community service work were used up last year. In the past, such funding lasted for 2 seasons but last year so many did community service that the funds were used up in one year. Perhaps we will receive more funding later in 2010 but for now there are no funds for providing free or reduced trips for students who do community service.

If you have any questions please call Mr. Sauer at 492-4359 or email him at dsauerATccvschools.com (please use the "@" symbol to replace the "AT" in this email address. By using "AT" in the address instead of "@" it foils automated email harvesting programs that collect email addresses off web pages used by spammers.)

PARENT'S INFO

-All trips are on Fridays and the school bus leaves the school at 6:00 am sharp. The bus then picks up additional participants at Evergreen Station around 6:15. Parents and family are welcome to come.

-The bus returns to Evergreen Station about 7:00 pm and to the school at about 7:15 pm. Please note that winter driving conditions can alter this time estimation. We could be later but we are seldom earlier.

-Skiers and snowboarders will need some sort of eye protection. If it’s snowing heavily goggles are essential. Sunscreen is important too especially for fair skinned individuals.

-Food is expensive at the ski area and students can bring a packed lunch. We will also stop at the Gun Smoke Truck Stop about half way there for a bathroom / snack break. Beverages that contain strong stimulants are banned on the bus. That includes Mt. Dew.

-Lunches and shoes can be left on the bus and accessed during the day so lockers would only be a convenience but not a necessity.

- Because our group rate is based on at least 20 students, we cannot guarantee a complete refund if your student doesn’t come. Most of the time the ski club can return 100% of the money for a student that doesn’t come because most of our trips are way over 20 even after no-shows. The cost of a lesson can never be refunded though because the ski area won’t refund lessons to the Ski Club. A refund can be applied as credit for the next trip. After the last trip any outstanding refunds are mailed home as checks. Refunds are not given to students as cash. A complete refund, even on lessons, can be guaranteed if Dave Sauer is notified of the cancellation at least 8 days before the trip date.

- Because of school insurance company rules, all students must wear helmets which can be rented. Adults can do so at their own discretion.

- Students planning on using private transportation rather than the school bus will need a signed note from their parent/guardian unless they are riding with their parent/guardian.

- People arriving later than 10:00 am will no longer be able to pick up their lift ticket from Mr. Sauer but will have to go to the Group Sales Office and tell them they are from Cripple Creek – Victor Schools.

- If it is snowing really hard, a Ski Club trip may be called off as late as the morning of the trip. In such a case, we will call the number on the application to let you know very early in the morning. This number will also be called from the ski area if your son or daughter gets hurt. Put down more than one phone number if necessary so we can reach you in either scenario.

- Your son or daughter will be on their own at the ski area. They will not be supervised by a sponsor except for on the bus. They will need to make intelligent decisions about which runs to go down and whether or not to ski or ride in the trees. They will not receive instruction from the sponsors on how to get on or off a lift or on skiing or riding techniques. For students in grades below grade 6 an adult must accompany them. Grade 6 and up are permitted to come without adults.

- Payment and completed forms must be turned in by the due date on the permission slip to get on the trip. This date is well before the trip to allow time for organizing all the data for the ski area and sending it to them by their deadline.

Dave Sauer is the main sponsor and can be emailed at dsauer@ccvschools.com or called at 492-4359. (Please note this cell phone has no reception at the ski area or along 90% of the drive but you can leave a voice message and Dave will check for messages at points of reception along the trip.)
